The Green Living Guide – Mowgli Street Food MCR – Vegan Review.

Hey there Teacups! I’m so excited to start posting for this series, it really has been something I’ve wanted to do for a while now .. so let’s get going shall we.

As you’ll all know by now I’m a vegetarian (transitioning to vegan) and so is my other half. We are both self confessed foodies. So we’re always looking for great vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Manchester and other cities that we travel to.

Recently we visited a restaurant that we’ve been thinking about going to for a while now, but just never gotten the chance.

For Let’s just say it went down extremely well and we’re so annoyed with ourselves that we didn’t visit Mowgli sooner.

Mowgli Street Food – Manchester

”The simple dishes of a Mowgli menu are a million miles away from the curry stereotype. These dishes convey the truth that real Indian food is extremely healthy, often vegan and always packed with fresh flavour” – http://www.mowglistreetfood.com/

I was a little hesitant to try mowgli at first, my preconceptions were that all the food would be to spicy for me and I wouldn’t be able to finish anything I ordered. Oh boy was I very very wrong, and I’m so annoyed that I put us off going for a while.

The Vegetarian & Vegan items from the Mowgli lunch menu that we tried were :-

Fenugreek Kissed Fries – Potato with turmeric, fenugreek & the Mowgli masala. £4.95 (Vegan)

——————————————————–

Tea Steeped Chickpeas – Chickpeas simmered in a rich Darjeeling spiced tomato & spinach sauce. £4.95 (Vegan)

How could I not have tried these, you guys know what I’m like. Chickpeas and Tea… I couldn’t believe it when I first read the menu. ————————————————

Temple Dahl – The ultimate Indian home comfort food. Red lentil simmered with toasted cumin, coriander & lemon. £3.95 (Vegan)

————————————————

Mowgli Paneer – Staff favourite. Tender cubes of soft paneer cheese simmered with velvety sweet, spiced tomatoes, garden peas & fresh spinach. £6.75 (Vegetarian)

—————————————————––

We shared these dishes with a side of rice and some nann bread, and we could have ordered a lot less than we did.

The portion sizes were overally generous for the price that we payed, and in the end we couldn’t finish everything. We will definitely be ordering less next time we go.

All but one of the dishes we tried were vegan. The Paneer dish we had was vegetarian.

Quite Simply Mowglis Menu is perfect for vegans and vegetarians. There is so much choice and all of the options are so intensely flavourful and so Morish.

We really can’t wait to go back here soon!

—————————————————

As you all know I can’t go anywhere without trying their tea, so of course I had to order a tea with my meal. I was so shocked when they bought out are drinks and it loose leaf tea!

I’ve come to accept that if I want to have tea while we’re eating a meal anywhere. that it’s going to be from a tea bag so I suppose I just expected that really.

I ordered the English Breakfast tea and I had it black with no sugar or milk. It was absolutely phenomenal and I’m kicking myself for forgetting to ask them where it was from. Oh well it just gives us an excuse to go back doesn’t it.

  1. Gosh what a great selection of food. It’s made me hungry and it’s no where near lunchtime. I recently had a curry out and they easily adapted it for dairy free me. The tea looks perfect for me.
